Abstract

A fast shutter valve has been developed to minimize the amount of tritium flowing into the neutral beam line or the diagnostic equipments for burning plasma experiment. With the aperture of 20 cm in diameter, the conductance of 1 l /sec for hydrogen molecules has been obtained in closed position. The total time from the command-to-open signal when the shutter is in the full closed position, or vice versa during closing, is less than 150 msec. The valve has been tested for more than 10, 000 cycles and no deleterious effects have been found.
