Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop robust engineering formulae of residual stress distributions in the dissimilar welds by using finite element analysis. First, finite element analysis procedure is validated by comparing the residual stresses of a mock-up dissimilar weld calculated by finite element analysis with hole drilling measurement results. Second, parametric study based on the finite element analysis procedure is performed adequately considering the effect of geometric variables and mismatch on real dissimilar welds. Third, engineering formulae are developed based on the parametric study results. Last, the formulae are verified by comparing with the previous results such as PVRC JIP and API 579.
