Abstract

This paper proposes a practical method for improving the fuel consumption of the energy management of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). The society of automotive engineers of Japan (JSAE) and the society of instrument and control engineers (SICE) in Japan provides a benchmark model. First, the energy management system (EMS) is constructed with four design variables. The computation is so expensive that sequential approximate optimization (SAO) with radial basis function (RBF) network is used to find an approximate global optimal solution. Numerical result shows that the proposed algorithm of the EMS improves the fuel consumption significantly.
