Abstract

In this paper, Distributed Virtual Factory (DVF) concept is proposed as a distributed simulation environment which is to be used as a tool to evaluate the performance of large and complex manufacturing systems. DVF will be constructed on a distributed computer network system developed for the computer integrated manufacturing. The relation between the structure of the distributed simulation environment and the model of manufacturing system is firstly described and then basic requirements for the virtual factory are presented. Time bucket method is applied as a synchronization mechanism to construct a distributed simulation system and DVF effectiveness is discussed with respect to manufacturing management method analysis by a case study.
