Abstract

The increase in the use of information and communications technologies entails increased demands on the competencies of managers and management employees. Architecture, engineering, and construction is an area where the increase in technology can be considered significant. This generally increases people’s demands and their digital capabilities. On the other hand, progressive technologies support and help to learn in technology and at the same time can help to acquire the digital competencies of project managers faster. Human resources and their competencies can also be considered as key in the construction project management. Digital competencies are a decisive advantage in the twenty-first century why some project managers are successful and others are not. The design of construction projects and their management in modern times are carried out using modern and progressive technologies such as BIM technology. BIM technologies require a certain level of skills. On the contrary, BIM technologies contribute to increasing the skills of project managers. The research discusses the development of digital competencies and BIM technology skills in construction project management and the importance of individual competencies and skills of project managers. This research attempts to identify in more detail the major digital competencies and BIM skills that the project manager can acquire by using BIM technology in the field of building project management. The research sample consists of construction project managers who have worked on several international construction projects in Europe. The research analyzes in detail individual digital competencies and BIM skills from the theoretical point of view. Subsequently, it seeks to quantify the importance of acquiring individual digital competencies and BIM skills by construction experts and project managers.
