Abstract

This paper provides an analytical method that forms the basis for the development of CAM software for the design, manufacturing, and visualization of an indexable insert. There are four special features relevant to the proposed model. The first is a model of indexable inserts, which allows the insert to be designed parametrically. The second is a method for the determination of the generated contour (flank) surface of the insert based on differential geometry. The third feature presented is a post-processor, which converts the obtained data into a four-axis CNC grinder NC code. The last one includes the flowcharts of tool-path planning and the associated diagram of the developed CAM software. Finally, the results of experiment and simulation are compared to validate the proposed model.
