Abstract

Currently, compared with the technical support needed for adopting Building Information Modelling (BIM), the scholars didn’t pay sufficient efforts on sociology. This paper examines developments of BIM in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry in China, with a particular focus on the policy support for government-industry linkages. The paper shows how different regions in China have responded to the policy initiatives, and suggests that there have been some movements towards regional diversity for the developments of BIM in China. However, questions remain as to the development and potential of truly regional governance structures for BIM and the role of universities.
