Abstract

Blast furnace slag has recently become a precious resources and the use of slag has been expanding rapidly.The quality of granulated slag sand is affected largely by the rate of water flow to that of molten slag flow.Applying this background, the authors have developed a “Molten Slag Flow Rate Meter” by using a correlation flow velocity meter and a photo diode array camera. The equipment was tested at Ohgishima No. 1 BF and Fukuyama No. 5 BF, Nippon Kokan K.K. and has performed well. The granulated slag sand making process in Fukuyama No. 5 BF in particular, has been greatly affected by the application of the slag flow rate meter to the water flow rate control system.
