Abstract

This study aims to produce high school biology textbooks based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) on students’ scientific literacy skills on valid plant growth and development materials and determine the responses of biology teachers and students and measure the effectiveness of books in learning. The research design used is the type of research and development research and development (R&D) model Borg and Gall. The population in this study were students of class XII IPA SMA Negeri 1 Lawe Sigala gala, totaling 4 classes with a sample of 2 classes taken randomly. The data analysis technique used quantitative and qualitative descriptive. The results of product validation based on the assessment of material experts are 93.71% very good, instructional design experts with a value of 96.41% very good, linguists with a value of 92.70% very good, expert’s layout with a value of 95.74% very good, and the responses of biology teachers and students obtained a score of 90.71% and 86.35% in the very good category. The STEM-based biology textbook developed was effective based on scientific literacy ability (Z=3.873 and P=0.000). The increase in the average N-gain value in the experimental class showed an increase in scientific literacy ability with a value of 0.48 in.the medium category.
