Abstract

Most automatic fish feeders had the problem of controlling the amount of fish feed released. The right portion of fish feed supposedly based on the total weight of fish. Fish feed given to fish that are not hungry will be wasted. This paper introduces an efficient fish feeding system. We classified the feeding behaviors by monitoring changes in water ripples caused by fish movement when the fish are hungry, then feed according to daily need based on the weight of the fish. Water ripples caused by gasping behavior will be used as input from the automatic fish feeding system. Gyroscope sensor is used to detect water ripples. This paper makes the following contributions: 1) a fully automated fish feeding system that controls feeding for a fish tank, 2) a measure of the fish activity based on gasping behavior. After conducting experiments, the following conclusions are obtained. The design of a prototype system capable of automatically feeding fish was successfully conducted. The average fish feed released by the designed system in a day have met the standard according to the ideal amount of food to be given per day based on the weight of the fish.
