Abstract

This paper develops an ultraslim permanent magnet brushless motor with printed circuit board winding, which, in application, is an electromagnetic exciting component. The design of its mechanical structure aims to eliminate any unnecessary space. An effective explanation for calculating the related motor parameters is presented and finite element analysis is also incorporated for further performance evaluation and refinement. Following the design process, a prototype of an ultraslim motor is suggested. A commercially available motor drive integrated circuit has been effectively adapted to make the motor work successfully. Excellent agreement between the simulation and measured results shows that the ultraslim motor may be suitable for microelectronic products.
