Abstract

The use of Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) is common in modern safety analysis of nuclear power stations. Due to requirements of the local licensing authority (the Council for Nuclear Safety) Eskom has had to develop an extensive analysis capability in this area. To support this work a fully integrated Fault Tree/Event Tree analysis code, with particular emphasis on data handling, was developed in-house. Due to the close integration of the code developers and the reliability analysts there are a large number of features in the code which are not found in similar codes. This code (WHAT2) has proved to be very flexible in support of day-to-day plant operation and its use is being extended beyond the nuclear area.
