Abstract

The subject of "Industry 4.0" is characterised by scepticism and profound discussions. Despite the existing reticence, the economy is currently facing a wide range of challenges, which can be attributed to fundamental technological and social change. Due to lower monetary resources and a lack of know-how, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular are at a disadvantage compared with large corporations when it comes to meeting these challenges. Research in the field of Industry 4.0 has therefore not only been concerned with the development of innovative technologies but also with the development of methodical tools in recent years. This publication presents a methodical solution concept in the form of an Industry 4.0 method and knowledge platform, which is intended to support SMEs in the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies. The focus is on enabling self-organised application and on taking up as well as continuing existing research aspects.
