Abstract

We are developing an azimuthally polarized, Q switched CO2 laser aiming at micro-drilling application of printed circuit boards (PCBs). A 2 kW class production model CO2 laser is used as a platform. We propose an all-in-one master-oscillator and power amplifier (MOPA) configuration, in which the master oscillator is surrounded by 11-pass power amplifier cylindrically, and they are built-in the 65 mm bore of the single discharge volume. This all-in-one configuration allows us to use the MOPA laser in the market already dominated by the compact diffusion cooling CO2 lasers. Azimuthally polarized oscillation mode is generated by a triple-axicon optical resonator. Numerical calculations show that the laser will produce a 1 kW average power, TEM01 * transverse mode, and azimuthally polarized output. We are developing an azimuthally polarized, Q switched CO2 laser aiming at micro-drilling application of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
