Abstract

Prototype models of track wheel confirm the expected features of this new, efficient all terrain vehicle suspension system. Measured load capacities are higher than expected and rolling resistance is low. Track wheel propulsion and braking are feasible with a hinged track support frame. A track manufacturing process is outlined. The relationship between track geometry and load capacity is shown by a range of track wheel designs. Off-road features of track wheel are a low ground pressure and low motion resistance.
