Abstract

An ultrasonic measurement system based on the reflection method using a combination of an optical interferometer and an air-backed pellicle was developed and validated. The measured effective refractive index of water for far-field ultrasounds was roughly equivalent to the theoretical value. The acousto-optic effect in focused ultrasound was also investigated using the system.
