Abstract

Algorithms of a protection system for prevention and elimination of asynchronous operation in high-voltage networks are presented. The purpose of such a protection system is to prevent the total system collapse caused by loss of synchronism in the operation of large-capacity generator groups due to a fault in high-voltage power transmission networks. The phase difference between the voltages of two generator groups is calculated. To simplify the complicated task of selection among the device settings, new methods of voltage modelling are introduced. The methods were tested by modelling the asynchronous condition that takes place at interconnection of power systems and the loss of synchronism at a major generating station.
