Abstract

Objective To develop new disposable accessories with high-strength plastic cement for the shipboard universal abdominal retractor. Methods In accordance with the tension measured in the metal hooks that accompanied with the shipboard universal abdominal retractor, and through mechanical engineering and biomechanics, high polymer plastic cement was optimized and molded to form disposable high-strength plastic hooks, which underwent high temperature thermodynamics and tension tests, and clinical trial as well. Results Through thermodynamics and tension tests, and clinical trial, the disposable high-strength plastic hooks made of polyformaldehyde ( POM ) could fully meet the demands of practical application. Conclusions The disposable high-strength plastic hook accompanied with the surgical abdominal retractor had the advantages of being light weight, dismountable, low cost and having good mechanical strength, and it was especially suitable for use in a situation with a batch of surgeries, onboard the ship both in peace time and in war. This product was of good mechanical strength and high temperature endurance and had the features of advanced quality and practicality.
