Abstract
ABSTRACTAn alternative zonal fire main system concept is presented and compared to a typical combatant fire main system to determine the potential for affordability gains while maintaining capability. A combatant (DDG‐51) fire main system was modeled in a computer aided design (CAD) system along with the alternative zonal architecture system. The zonal architecture utilizes nine vertical zones as opposed to the conventional vertical offset loop system. Analysis indicates a 9% weight and 20% cost reduction can be achieved with a zonal architecture system. The system is being analyzed to determine if its performance is equivalent to conventional systems and may continue to evolve as additional studies are performed.
