Development of a wind tunnel model technique for orchard spray application research

Abstract

Previously collected data on the wind conditions which exist over an orchard have been successfully modelled, on a 112th scale, in an open jet wind tunnel. In addition, it has been shown that the air jet performances of scale model air blast sprayers follow closely the performance records of the full size machines, but efforts to reproduce spray deposit patterns were less successful. The model approach allows researchers to set the conditions as they are required and, once set, they are repeatable.
