Abstract

A two-element infrared interferometer system has been developed for basic research of the high-resolution imaging of distant objects at wavelengths around 10 μm. The system is technically baced on CO2 laser heterodyne detection of infrared radiation as well as a wideband analog correlator technique. The baseline length is 2.25m, resulting in the angular resolution limit of about 5 μrad for 10 μm-band radiation. Through preliminary, laboratorial experiments using a CO2 laser as a test radiation source, we confirmed that the system fulfils its fundamental functions and the performances of its major elements are sufficient for future imaging operation.
