Abstract

Severe mitral valve (MV) insufficiency is a structural heart disease that causes patients to experience significant symptom burden and worsening heart failure. Open heart surgical valve repair is currently the conventional treatment, but may not be an option for patients who present with an excessive surgical risk profile. Transcatheter MV repair is emerging as a safe and effective option for select patients likely to derive significant benefit.
