Abstract

Results: The competency documents have been used for 12months and students on each clinical placement completed questionnaires before and after to evaluate their clinical experience. No students had worked a 7 day model prior to placement and 100% found working as part of this model was beneficial at undergraduate level. The competency documents provided a framework tominimize potential risks and assisted the students in their direction of clinical learning. The students did not feel the competency documents placed any additional pressure on them to complete. Conclusion(s): The use of specific guidelines and a competency framework will facilitate learning, ensure safe practice and empower student’s development in a 7 daymodel of working. Implications:When a 7 day model of working has been developed within an organisation, students should also work as part of that model to allow integration and professional development.
