Abstract

In some cases, it is necessary to monitor some patients in real time, so a portable EEG (electroencephalogram) device is necessary for such applications. The goal of this study is to develop such a portable multi-channel EEG device (named pEEG) and build an integrated 24 hours monitoring system based on Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology. A server is employed to collect monitored patients' EEG data and distribute them to physicians via Internet in the proposed system, thus the patients can be monitored by physicians in real time. The whole system consists of a data acquisition, a TCP/IP packets processing unit, a server and a data analysis part. At the present stage, the pEEG is well tested and the distribution program in server side is completed, and the data analysis program in client or physician side can display raw waveform, filtered waveform and power spectrum. With this system, one patient's EEG can be monitored by more than one physician and vice versa.
