Abstract

Increasingly stringent emission limits for commercial vehicles in the EU as of 2005 will probably require exhaust gas aftertreatment — articulate traps are one possible route. However, reliable particulate trap regeneration under all possible driving conditions presents a problem that has not yet been solved satisfactorily. Especially in vehicles that are operated in urban areas in stop-and-go mode, the problem arises that exhaust gas temperatures are not high enough to regenerate the filter via passive measures. One remedy would be to integrate an active regeneration system, and such a system is presented in this article by Zeuna Starker and ArvinMeritor Air Emissions Technologies.
