Abstract

For the treatment of cancer, chemotherapeutic drugs are administered. But these drugs have side effects. A common side effect is chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). To reduce this side effect, antiemetic drug ondansetron is administered. The interactions between chemotherapeutic drug and the antiemetic drug occur through ligand-gated ion channels namely serotonin 5-HT3 receptor. The authors endeavored to develop a model in MATLAB® to show how the interactions between antiemetic and chemotherapeutic drug would cause the alteration of Power Spectral Density of action potential. Thus PSD of action potential is linked with vomiting reflex due to interaction of above mentioned drugs.
