Abstract
The article deals with the problem of the occurrence of losses of petroleum products on the main pipelines.
 The purpose of the study is revealed. The authors defined the subject and object of the study, set tasks to determine the
 factors influencing the occurrence of various types of losses of petroleum products during pumping, and also determined
 the causes of emergency, natural and operational losses. The article considers a system for accurately determining
 the location of the leak, which will ensure the reduction of excess losses of oil and petroleum products during unauthorized
 tie-ins, as well as environmental consequences when the product is spilled into the environment.
