Abstract

In this study, the micro-reactor for rapid analysis of chemical reaction kinetics with absorption spectroscopy was developed. Acetone iodation (CH3COCH3 + I3 - +H+ rarr CH3COCH2I + H+ +2I-) was adopted as a test reaction. The concentration was analyzed by spectrophotometric method. The conclusions are summarized as follows; (1) The microreactor system developed in this study gave the high performance for analysis of chemical reactions in liquid. (2) ldquoIsland in the sea rdquo structure in the micro scale mixer was confirmed to mix two solutions perfectly in a second. (3) The iodination of acetone was adopted as a test reaction. The reaction rate constant obtained by the analysis system in this study was agreed with it obtained from the conventional batch experiment. (4) The analysis of the chemical reaction was successful under controlled temperatures. (5) The reaction rate constant obeyed the Arrhenius equation. The activation energy of the iodination of acetone determined by dependence of the reaction rate constant on temperatures was agreed with the reference.
