Abstract

Abstract : This project focuses on the development of microfluidic chambers for the study of breast cancer cell chemotaxis. In the first phase of the project, we designed, fabricated, and tested the microfluidic chemotaxis chamber, ensuring its compatibility with breast cancer cell culture and observation using fluorescence and DIC microscopy. We began the next phase of the project, investigating the migration of breast cancer cells in epidermal growth factor (EGF). We showed that the concentration gradients of EGF induce the chemotaxis of breast cancer cells in a manner that is dependent on the shape of the concentration gradient profile. As we continue our work in this project, we will use the microfluidic chemotaxis chamber to study, in depth, the chemotaxis of breast cancer cells in superimposed gradients of multiple growth factors.
