Abstract

A hybrid computer model, SOFIS, has been developed for the simulation of an enclosed virtual sound field in an arbitrary shaped enclosure. It can be used to calculate the impulse response and acoustical parameters of different positions in a virtual enclosure. This paper describes the way in which SOFIS models the sound source, the receiver and the sound propagation throughout the enclosed space with curved surfaces or barriers. A phase tracing method and the calculation of acoustic indexes are also discussed in this paper.
