Abstract

A scalar Feed System for large reflector antennas is developed to international specifications. The system consists of a feed horn incorporated with only 5 corrugations spaced nearly one-third of a wavelength, and an orthogonal mode transducer with waveguide inputs. The primary patterns exhibit good symmetry in E and H-planes, a ‘snub-nose’ variation, and sidelobes below 30 dB level. Standing wave ratio below 1.15, Isolation between ports above 40 dB and total system efficiency above 70% over a frequency band of 18% have been achieved with this scalar feed.
