Abstract

The non-uniform flow based gridding is a well-known approach to create coarse-scale dynamic model to obtain results with high accuracy and low computation cost. In this approach, the grid refinement is performed only in the flow feature regions. Since the flow features will change during the reservoir life, the dynamic gridding method makes it possible to capture the accuracy. In this study, the combination of the grid generation and the reservoir simulation sciences has been used to create the coarse-scale dynamic mesh model with high accuracy and low simulation running time. In this model, the mesh will be updated based on the dynamic interest regions during the simulation time. The simulation results of the presented methodology have been compared with the conventional static gridding models and fine-scale models for oil–water and gas–water flows in the heterogeneous oil and gas reservoirs.
