Abstract

The continuous development of materials and manufacturing processes, especially in the field of multi-material design, leads to a large number of different car body component designs, which are difficult to keep track of. For this reason, this article deals with the systematic derivation of generic car body components and their characteristics- and properties-based categorization. The aim is to provide a design catalogue that allows access to the collection of generic body part solutions by making use of component characteristics or properties. This allows the selection of designs from a large pool of solutions in line with requirements at a very early stage of product development.
