Abstract

With the popularity and development of smart manufacturing systems, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system has been becoming increasingly important. Data acquisition system is an indispensable part of the SCADA system. In this paper, a data acquisition system with a data acquisition server (DAS) is developed to collect and monitor real-time data of a newly built stainless pipe welding production line in a steel pipe factory. A layered model of data acquisition system is implemented to establish a bottom-to-top data transmission channel. The system supports acquisition of data via multiple communication protocols which ensures the adaptation and flexibility of the SCADA system. Data collected from various devices in the workshop are sent to the upper Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in real time. To achieve the friendly system functionality, the desktop Graphical User Interface (GUI) application program is also developed in the DAS to perform all substantial data acquisition actions.
