Abstract

The present work describes the synthesis of functionalized MCM-48 nanoparticles (nMCM-48) with 12-Tungstophosphoric acid (TPA) and its characterization using various techniques like elemental analysis, FT-IR, TGA, HRTEM and N2 adsorption measurements at 77K. It also describes its application as a drug carrier for the controlled release of doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX). The DOX loaded TPA functionalized nMCM-48 was assessed for its drug delivery potential both in-vitro and in-vivo. In-vitro release study was carried out in simulated gastric fluid (pH-1.2, 37 °C) and simulated body fluid (pH-7.4, 37 °C). The carrier was found to be non-toxic whereas the drug loaded carrier demonstrated apoptosis in HepG2 cell lines. The in-vivo studies performed on the nude mice model showed good tumor regression when treated with DOX loaded TPA/nMCM-48.
