Abstract

Nowadays, there is an increase in health problems among radiation device operators. Heavy weight of the radiation apron or radiation protection device is a major challenge faced by operators in this field. The levitating personal radiation protection system was designed to enhance radiation protection and improve ergonomics and comfort by eliminating weight on the operator, while maintaining a neutral or positive effect on task accomplishment. The increased risk for operators wearing heavy radiation protection devices is well documented in sectors like the hospital industry. The proposed levitating system for radiation protection is designed and developed as low-cost device, that will work with all types of personal radiation protection apparatuses. System comprises of an automatic height adjustment unit with a linear actuator- microcontroller mechanism. Each clinician/operator can adjust the height of the protective apron using a remote control.
