Abstract

In this paper, common cause failure analysis methods are reviewed. Stress-strength interference (SSI) theory and the common load model are used to develop an original common cause failure (CCF) analysis method. The approach derived involves an inversion of results based on SSI theory, and is called the inverse stress-strength interference (ISSI) technique. The relationship between the ISSI technique and other commonly used common cause failure analysis methods is also described. Finally, the qualitative and quantitative behavior of the ISSI technique is discussed.
