Abstract

Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) is developing a SOFC system for a combined heat and power unit. KEPRI has studied an anode supported planar cell and a 1 kW class stack operated at intermediate temperature. A 1 kW class SOFC stack was composed of 37 cells with 10×10cm2 and stainless steel interconnects. It showed the maximum power density of 0.35 W/cm2 at 750{degree sign}C. When a 1 kW class SOFC system was operated at 750{degree sign}C with a reformate gas of city gas, the stack showed 1.13 kW electrical power at 40 A and 1.3 kW at 50 A respectively. Hot water was made by recuperated heat from combustion of unreacted anode off-gas and heat of 0.57-1.2 kW was recovered according to the loaded current.
