Abstract

In this final chapter in Part I, many of the threads discussed thus far will be drawn together by means of a detailed analysis of certain peasant communities in the county of Warwickshire. Their different lines of development may be highlighted and linked into the major themes of the remainder of the book: the impact of agrarian change (particularly enclosure) on the peasantry, and the place of peasant revolts in the’ period of transition towards agrarian capitalism. These very peasant communities were central in the revolt considered in Part III.
