Abstract

The paper analyzes the design options of dump trucks used in road construction. Taking into account the climatic features of the Arctic regions of Russia, we propose a concept of a domestically-produced articulated dump truck for the development of hard-to-reach regions of the country. In the course of the study, we compared the technical level of such a dump truck with that of a truck with a traditional rigid frame based on the analysis of their traction-dynamic and power characteristics, maneuvering capabilities, flotation, and static and dynamic roll stability. The calculation results allow us to assert that the use of articulated dump trucks in the Arctic is more reasonable than the use of rigid-frame vehicles, and the proposed concept of designing such a vehicle is of current interest.
