Abstract

The electronic health records (EHRs) are an effective technological tool. Despite all technological advancement, they are rarely developed for stomatology records. Objective: To develop and validate electronic records for patient records in stomatology at a school of dentistry as a mobile application (ESTOMATO-PEP). Study Design: The paper record used in the dental school clinic was used as a basis for electronic record development. The software was developed using the Ionic and Cordova framework. For security reasons, a web service was developed at the university and cannot be used outside school. To validate, the focal group technique was used with the participation of students, teachers, and employees of the clinic. The speakingswere fully transcribed and analyzed through thematic analysis. Results: The thematic analysis showed the desire of the team to have the software installed at the clinic and pointed out its advantages and fragilities especially in relation to security. All functionalities were adjusted to the final version. The software is registered at the National Intellectual Property Institute. Conclusion: The implementation of this software will bring security, increased storage capacity, and generation of insurance reports to the clinic that will support the research for the benefit of the academic community and society.
