Abstract
Ciprofloxacin [1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(piperazin-1-yl)quinoline-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride] (Figure 1) is freely soluble in water (3.5 g dL–1) and less soluble in organic solvents such as methanol (0.016 g dL–1) [1, 2]. It is a second-generation fluoroquinolone chemotherapeutic agent used worldwide as antibacterial and has strong effect on Gramnegative bacteria and weak effect on Gram-positive bacteria. It is used in the treatment of infections of the urinary tract, airways, alimentary tract, skin and soft tissues, bones, arthritis, infections caused by Pseudomonas bacteria, and serious general infections [3, 4].
