Abstract

This article describes the process of design and testing of the concrete compositions to select optimal concrete mixture composition for manufacturing the base elements of the metal cutting machines. The requirements on hardness, rigidity, vibration strength, heat resistance, and accuracy, valid for bed plates and spindle headstocks of metal cutting machines, as well, as their dimensions were analyzed to design the concrete mixture composition. Three variants of concrete mixture composition were suggested for each machine base element. Test specimens were manufactured from them to conduct tests. The tests included determining compression and bent strength, Poisson ratio, elasticity coefficient, and shrinkage deformations. One optimal variant of concrete composition for manufacturing the bed plate and spindle headstock of the metal cutting machine was chosen based on tests results.
