Abstract

This paper explains the procedure of developing and standardizing a teaching ability assessment scale constructed by the investigator to measure the teaching ability of teacher educators. The scale has been constructed by making use of Likert's method of summation to get a five point judgment on each item. After reviewing many related studies done in the field of teaching assessment both in India and in other countries, dimensions which were reported as positively or negatively correlated to teaching ability were selected for constructing the tool. 62 statements were selected for the pilot study which was related to different dimensions that measure teaching ability of teachers. A pilot study was conducted on random sample of 300 teacher educators working in secondary teacher training institution in Haryana State. After item analysis 45 statements with t-value more than 1.75 were selected for the final study. The newly constructed scale has face validity and content validity. Reliability of the scale was measured by using two methods namely Cronback Alpha Coefficient and Split Half method by applying Spearman Brown formula. Alpha coefficient comes out to be 0.89 whereas in Split Half Method correlation coefficient between the two sets of scores was calculated that comes out to be 0.81. It indicates high reliability of the scale.
