Abstract
Due to the expanding waste management concerns, natural fibres composites have drawn the attention of many researchers in this field. Composite materials have large affinity to replace other metallic and synthetic materials. Light weight, non-toxic, non-abrasivity, easy availability, low cost and biodegradable properties of natural fibres makes the composite materials more potential for commercial applications. The use of these composites is gradually increasing in many engineering applications like marine, defense, sports goods and many other automobile sectors.Even though numbers of composite materials with synthetic fibres such as glass fibres, rayon, nylon etc. and metallic fibres have been used as reinforcing agent but natural fibres have uniqueness among them because of its extraordinary properties with significant strength and stiffness. In this present study an epoxy based composite material reinforced with betel nut fibres has been developed and different properties of this material has been investigated. It has been found that the physical and mechanical properties of the composites such as tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength and hardness were highly influenced by the fibres content in it.
