Abstract

Despite the fact that more than half of medical school graduates are women, pervasive gender disparities exist in time to promotion, achievement of academic rank, and appointment to leadership positions. The objective of this study was to develop and pilot test a survey instrument to characterize the unique needs of women in medicine surrounding fertility and family building which may contribute to academic disparities and attrition.
