Abstract

Photocatalysis is a process that uses photon energy to drive chemical redox reaction. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are potential photocatalysts due to their unique physicochemical properties. Among the TMDs family members, molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) has been deemed as an important co-catalyst for photocatalytic water splitting. This project was aimed at developing visible-light-active MoS2-based photocatalysts. Their photocatalytic performance in dye degradation and solar water splitting were carefully studied. Various band structure engineering strategies were adopted for MoS2 coupled bismuth-based photocatalysts to harvest broad spectrum of solar light.
