Abstract
Objective: We sought to outline the rationale and procedures for revising the Caffeine Consumption Questionnaire (CCQ) and to examine the utility and validity of the CCQ-revised (CCQ-R). Given that caffeine is a widely used drug with myriad potential health effects, it is important to measure and understand its use; however, to date, there are no reliable and valid biological tests readily available and existing self-report measures do not have standardized administration or scoring procedures. Method: The CCQ-R incorporates pictures, visual cues of relative sizes, sample products, and details about products to aid in responding. Additionally, a standardized scoring system is provided. Results and Conclusion: Validity data are provided and suggest that the CCQ-R offers a valid approach for measuring self-reported caffeine use.
