Abstract

Achieving a higher quality of continuously-cast billets is possible by using a nuclear-type electromagnetic sensor instead of the traditional sensor to measure the level of metal in the mold. A combined use of two types of sensors makes it possible to control the thickness of the slag-forming mixture on the metal surface. The paper describes the experience of implementing a metal level measurement system with electromagnetic sensor at the bloom CCM of the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant.
