Abstract

The paper presents development, testing and on-site implementation of a new CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer) post-tensioning system for flexural strengthening. Main elements of the system include the tensioning device and steel anchorages mounted on both ends of a single CFRP strip. Development of the system itself and the results of a system efficiency examination on full-scale beams in the lab have been briefly described in the paper. After laboratory testing, the system has been implemented on site to strengthen two beam bridges, built of reinforced concrete and steel. Bridge load tests before and after strengthening have been carried out to assess system efficiency.
